How Much Does It Cost?

A typical acupuncture session lasts from 45 to 90 minutes (with or without Chinese Herbal Medicine consultation) and the duration depends on the condition treated. The treatment costs £31 for children (and cancer patients) and £41 for adults (£82 for a 90 minute facial acupuncture treatment). Please note a special rate applies for bookings in Holland Park and late evenings. At the IVF 'Embryo Transfer' stage, home visits can be arranged at a nominal rate.

The acupuncture session for babies and children will last about 30 minutes. Usually a needle free treatment is given using ancient chinese techniques (developed further by japanese acupuncturists) called 'Shonishin' (pronounced shone-is-shin) where blunt and slightly pointed instruments are gently tapped and massaged over the babys' skin for a few minutes. The treatment is painless and produces good results but because of the gentle nature of the treatment, the time taken to produce results may take slightly longer. In severe cases very fine needles are quickly inserted and retained for a few seconds, but only with parents approval. Moxibustion (a warming technique) is sometimes also used. Most of the time taken is for discussing the progressions or problems that needs to be addressed.

The cost of the Chinese Herbal Medicine is separate and will cost from 50p to £2.15 per day depending upon the form used.

Please note, all needles used are sterile and are only used once.

What Type Of Chinese Herbs Do You Use?

I generally use powders which have been processed pharmaceutically to GMP (Good Manufacturering Process) standard which ensures potency, quality and keeps the product free from pesticides and other contaminants. These powders are taken by mixing a fixed measure with warm water, thus ensuring a low and safe dose is maintained. Also, it saves time from the traditional boiling of the raw herbs which usually takes the patient about an hour per bag.

If you are very sensitive to taste, I can prescribe tablets which would be more palitable.

All the herbs used are regulated by The Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine which ensures that prohibited substances set by The Medicines and Heathcare products Regulatory Agency are enforced.

Any Recommendations?

*Avoid grapefruit juice whilst taking Chinese Herbal Medicine since the grapefruit juice is known to alter liver enzymes and because of this, it is also avoided whilst taking certain pharmaceuticals.

*The patient should inform their doctor of the therapy.

*The patient should not have a large meal prior to the appointment or coffee.

*Strenuous excercise should be avoided at least one hour prior to the appointment.

What If I Am Scared Of Needles ?

If you cannot tolerate needles at all, I can treat using magnets, moxibustion (a gentle heating technique) and massage to stimulate the acupuncture points.

I often use these techniques for children.

Fertility Cases (Naturally Conceived)

1) Case History March 2002
V.A age 31 .. trying to conceive for the last 16 months but had 2 miscarriages .. diagnosed with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) at the age of 20 .. no regular periods .. interval between periods ranges from 6 to 12 weeks .. periods generally last for 2 days and are very painful initially .. doctors advised to have fertility treatment but patient wants to try alternative route .. patient is also lactose intolerant and is very stressed

Result: early 2003 baby boy, 2005 baby boy

2) Case History July 2006
M.A age 38 .. in a 5 year period had 2 IVFs and 3 IUIs all unsuccessful .. irregular periods .. had prolapse in lower back and pelvis is tilted giving problems in the neck shoulders and arms .. problems with bowel movents when stressed .. problems with sleep

3) Case History July 2007
A.C age 31 .. trying to conceive for 3 months .. diagnosed PCOS 5 years ago .. irregular periods .. sometimes no periods for 2 cycles .. had stomach problems since childhood often complaining of 'dull ache' .. now constipation a continuing problem .. was taking 'Dianette' to control skin problem for a number of years

4) Case History April 2007
A.P age 35 .. diagnosed PCOS and endometriosis .. been on and off the pill since the age of 16 .. periods fairly regular .. was affected deeply by a traumatic car accident 10 years ago

Chronic Fatigue Case

Case History July 2003
C.F age 22 .. diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome at the age of 20 .. from the age of 15 was constantly lethargic .. suffers from bouts of Athletes Foot from the age of 15 .. first six years of childhood was regularly given antibiotics .. sometimes has pains in arms and legs .. poor short term memory and difficult to concentrate

Treatment Strategy: rebalance digestion, clear stagnations along acupuncture channels, build up energy

Result: 2005 began training to become Engineer

Irritable Bowel Case

Case History Feb 2007
A.L age 42 .. had irritable bowels since age 11 .. now controlled with diet and supplements but occurs during menses and easily gets constipated .. constant lower back ache .. sleep poor partly due to waking up to pass urine (nocturia) 2 to 5 times a night .. frequent tension headaches at temples .. emotional trauma from childhood

Treatment strategy: address trauma, build up constitution, stengthen digestion

Result: December 2007 symptom free but nocturia still occurs on average once per night and stopped taking related supplements

Paediatric Cases

1) Case History March 2007
P.B age 3 months .. Skin problem on cheeks (raised, red, weeping, scaly, itchy, large circular patches about 3cm diameter), lower back (raised, red, small pimple-like, covering an 4cm area), cradle cap .. had slight symptoms from birth but became worse a few weeks after first set of immunizations .. pregnancy full term with no complications .. child delivered aided with gas and air but mother extremely exhausted at delivery

Treatment strategy: clear toxins, strengthen digestion

Result: December 2007 only a 5mm patch remaining on right cheek .. April 2008 symptom free

2) Case History August 2007
M.H age 9 months .. 'nappy rash' for last 3 months (flat, red, patches, average 3cm in length) ..tried lots of creams from the doctor but did not work .. became slightly better when on holiday in hot country .. at birth suffered from jaundice .. has had all vaccinations .. sleeps alot .. can easily get 'snotty', 'phlegmy' and suffered from a constant cough .. mother had suffered alot of emotional trauma a few years before pregnancy .. whilst pregnant increased in weight by 4 stone .. delivery took 2 days .. given epidural .. topped up and was so low in energy at push stage episiotomy and forceps was used

Result: December 2007 Baby- symptom free, Mother- more energy

IVF Case

Case History November 2008

L.C age 39 .. trying to conceive for 5 years with no luck .. first attempt at IVF .. will start hormone injections soon .. period comes between 24 to 26 days and lasts 4 days, with the first 2 days of the cycle being slightly dark in colour, heavy with large blood clots and the remaining 2 days being alot lighter .. diet good .. work very stressful .. sleep poor and tends to awake at 3am and then slowly drift back to sleep .. suffers from headaches approx twice a week .. started acupuncture early Nov '08

Treatment strategy:Relax nervous system, improve blood flow for gynae area, help liver detox pharmaceuticals, help relax and de-stress as much as possible

Result: Mid Dec '08 produced 18 'good size' follicles out of 26 .. at transfer stage from the 9 chosen 6 were good and 3 were average .. January '09 pregnant .. October '10 baby boy
